Dani River King is a queer and autistic artist based on Gadigal land. Their practice spans across the mediums of ceramics, photography, poetry, video, drawing, painting and print making.

King’s practice focuses on exploring personal narratives around identity and trauma and mixing them with tropes and imagery from video games and cartoons.

Their neurodivergence and queerness is a central identity in their as it is one they have struggles to claim and are still constantly up against rhetoric and stereotypes that leave them feeling misunderstood and othered. Their art is a safe space where they can explore their identity privately before working up the courage to present it publicly and even then it contains less overt and sometimes secret messages in the visual undertones.

For King art is also a space where they can express and process their emotions, trauma and memories.

While these themes center their practice they also feel strongly about connection and community and while creating intend the works to contain enjoyable and evoking imagery in order to build a relationship with the viewer.
